R.I.P. Six Feet Under

Last night was the season finale of one of my all time favored television shows, Six Feet Under. SFU was recommended to me by S, and for a short period of time became a weekly event at her house in Columbia Falls three years ago. The shows first season had a very strong message of how death affects the Fishers (and in turn us, the audience). With each additional season the drama heightened, but this season was a big stand out. Ending on a high note is always good (see Calvin & Hobbes).

No surprise to any of my friends, I’ve always had an affinity to Brenda, played by Rachel Griffiths. Even at her moral worst, I loved her real world view points. Click For SPOILERS and I’m very pleased with how the writers treated her in the finale. I was greatly worried, and all for nothing. Brenda deserved what she got in the end, but again, I loved her character.

[Spoilers Warning (highlight to view): I want to say that I was a little disappointed with everyone dying. I thought it was a great way to end the series, however when Keith bites it via gunshots, I smiled and figured that each Six Feet Under character was going to get their quirky deaths, like the beginning of each episode. Instead after Keith's death, each characters death seemed mundane and uninteresting (After a second viewing, I have to say that Claire dying blind was horribly sad, and well done.) I wish the writers would have tried a little harder, like they did with the great "The Rapture, with blowup dolls". (An insidiously ingenious death)]

  1. Yeah, this show will definitely be missed. It was our regular Sunday night thing. Funny that you mention the Rapture with blowup dolls, that’s pretty much EVERYONE’S favorite death scene from that show, from what I’ve heard. So many good memories from this show. I can’t wait to pick them all up on DVD. ;)
