Hey Zack,

It is indeed intense. What SCRUM does is places the responsibility of a deployable build into the hands of the team with little to no support from Managers. Some development teams prefer this model as the PMs are not doing thier job (IMHO) and so want to cut out overhead and meaningless meetings.

However, there is little support for the team when needed.

SCRUM runs against the new model of conversational development. Other agencies like <a href="http://www.motherlondon.com/" rel="nofollow">Mother</a> or <a href="http://findsubstance.com/" rel="nofollow">Substance</a> call this the Long Table process. Everyone is involved in all portions of the development so that appropriate support is available to team members that need it.

<blockquote>"The “long table” is a physical manifestation of networked culture. Information is less driven by hierarchy and process and more driven through connections, collaboration, transparency and as Noah aptly put it in his blog, moments of serrendipity. Long table work environments help achieve this. Regardless of title, everyone sits together, pitches in, hears everything and can be inspired by seemingly unrelated moments or conversations around them."</blockquote>

Overall, all processes have flaws dependent on the project at hand, but it's great that there is more than just the PMI/PMP waterfall methodology.

[<a href="http://www.psfk.com/2007/03/long_table_agen.html" rel="nofollow">additional</a>]

Hey Lynn. It's quite the coincidence that you've been looking into that development model. I've recently applied to a new position that strictly follows that model on 3 to 4 week development cycles. I've been reading up on this development methodology and it appears quite more intense but also allows for faster deliverables as opposed to the waterfall methodology. I hope everything is going well, drop me a line sometime.

When I heard the Admin Assistant page all for a "quick gathering" and then saw them handing out batons, gas masks and rubber suits, I figured it was a good time to duck out without anyone noticing.

Ok Lynn, apparently my recent usage of myspace has ruined my brain. I can't for the life of me, figure out how to post a comment without it being in direct response to someone else's. And I just publically admitted that. This is just going down hill...Anyways, I'm excited for this Saturday. Yeah!

Lynn, Congratulations!!! I've been trying to get your address for a week to send you something in the mail. Does this mean it's not going to be the same in the near future.

Hi Lrnn.
I felt the pangs from the past while looking through this post. I remember my Earth Dawn days long ago playing nervously with my Blood Elf... I can't even remember her name... Discordia.... whatever. We were would be up all night drinking coke and munching on Tostinos Party Pizzas. Mmmmm diced hammy bits! I knew you were the only boy at the table who could tollerate me being there, but besides all of that I had fun. I kind of miss it all to tell you the truth. It's funny because I was talking to a another friend of mine about Shadow Run and Vampire the other day, and how we haven't rolled dice or cracked open an RPG book in years.
*fond fuzzies*

I still talk about your roll to this day. Playin' over at Mike's and we stumbled upon this magical mirror. As I recall, you walked up to and asked to see the big bad guy of the whole adventure. It showed him sitting in a long throne room surrounded by psycho monks. You decided to cock back an arrow and blast his ass. Mike laughed and said ok, you have a 1 in 100 chance. You picked up 2 1d10, and called the clear one the 10's die. rolled and got a 1. Big bad dude took a called shot to the head from an arrow and died. Thus ending our night early because Mike didn't know what to do. I love telling that story.

What can I say Lynn? Just the pictures alone brought a tear to my eye. I remember (oh, so fondly) all the years that DragonLance was the center of my world. I remember thumbing through the RPG book you just bought...I never had the guts to buy it. Never had anyone I felt comfortable enough to role play with....

I always imagined having my library of DL books tucked away for my kids to read one day...and then my Mom burned them because my brother told her he thought the books were brainwashing me....(........Angry cussing should ensue by all who love DragonLance..........)
In my brother's defense: I was 13 1/2 and drunk at a party he was throwing, in pj's that were falling off, with his friends yelling at me to get back into my bedroom while I was calling out for Tasselhoff.......(I was reading Kendermore at the time and had left it in the living room...I wanted my book damn it!).
Ah....DragonLance....Thank you Lynn for bringing one of my long lost loves back before my eyes.....

It was the same reason I didn't snag the knife company positon. I intimidated some of the managment with my range of experience. I always thought that a good manager wants the best people on his team. This whole process has been daunting so far.

I was informed today of the reasoning Leupold & Stevens chose to pass on me for the position I seemed destined to obtain.

it isn't easy to re-direct the musical flow of a club (scene).... and once you do, you'll be on to something new and exciting and the people at the club will be calling the tracks you suggested "club favorites"..... after they scoffed at them months earlier. goths are so dumb. hahaah

Nowhere else to really post this subject, so i'll use an OLD post. I added you to my XBOX live account when I got my XBOX 360 in November. You ever use that thing anymore, or has that gone away since all your moves? :P

P.S. All the sushi you can eat here. I like the blowfish.

Miss Columbia- Don't be misled by Lynn's knack for exaggeration. I am a renowned mysophobe and my children have ultimately become "mini-mysophobes".

Lynn has left out a few details and side-stepped the real tragedy. Lynn was deathly sick from having exposure to real (not virtual) human beings at his new job. He is the one that brought this ball-throbbing sickness into the house. Lynn being the first to get sick and contaminating the rest of the family. I don't know if you've seen Lynn lately, but he is very anemic and unhealthy in general. Starving himself (not for the lack of food, only for the sake of vanity) and not exercising and taking care of himself. HELLO KAREN CARPENTER!!! 40 lbs in two months GONE! If anything Lynn needs an intervention and not sympathy. So honestly, with no immune system left, it doesn't take much to get Lynn sick. LYNN GO EAT SOMETHING!! JESUS!

I am so pissed off about this issue! People are playing music in clubs?! Dancing?! Or possibly not dancing?! People should be at home playing dungeons and dragons (or any other d20 rule set) or in the dojo practicing karate! There will be time for music and dancing (or not dancing) when you're dead. In conclusion i agree 100% with things people has said re. the above stuff, etc.

That must have been disheartening for enjoyers of modern goth in Boise. I'm sorry to hear that. I actually believe that it's the DJs responsability to play new things to the audience for exposure reasons. I understand that isn't always the case, and this case in particular considering the DJ isn't a goth or industrial listener. Know that it's not just Boise, but in Portland as well. Getting people to dance to the new Covenant (Ritual Noise) is hard, but getting them to dance to old Covenant like Dead Stars (bleh) is a DJ cake walk.

The dude before DJ Savage, DJ Lithiumtwist (also known as my good bud Tyler), played a Voltaire song, and got yelled at. (I am not exaggerating.)

But you're right. Still, the old stuff has a special place in my heart, if for no other reason than I can find it at Hastings. New stuff takes forever to get to Boise.

Deathkitten > I have brought in a CD for Troy, Dave and DJ Savage to listen to and spin. Savage has done an excellent job of integrating it into his sets in just the few weeks it’s been in his hands (I’ve marked with a * the songs he’s mixed in when I am around). A smattering of the music I included is as follows:

[Please bear in mind that of everything I brought in, I try very very hard to NEVER include older that a year goth or industrial. The scene can’t be rooted in the past, or it dies on the vine – like it has been doing slowly for years. While I began listening to Industrial only in ’89 (Machines of Loving Grace – Burn Like Brilliant Trash (At Jackie's Funeral)) I can not and do not consider myself ‘old skool’. This is why I haven’t brought in a disc of 16 Volt, Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle etc because I consider it too old for modern floors in massive quantities. A reminder from time to time is ok, but there is so much great modern stuff…]

Panzer AG – Behind a Gasmask
Mesh – Crash (Alien Six Kerosene Mix)
Diskonnekted – After Einstein
Empusae – Ekro-Alakin
Gary Numan – Crazier (Slide Mix)
Error – Jack The Ripper
Ah Cama Sotz – Nachtzehrer
Red Cell – Related Skin
Stromkern - Stand Up (Army Of Darkness Mix by Battery Cage)
*Rotersand – Storm
Steril – American Dream
*Ayria – My Revenge On The World
In Strict Confidence - No Love Will Heal (Lucas Boysen Remix)
*Project Pitchfork – The Future Is Now
*Covenant – Ritual Noise (Version S)
*Virtual][Embrace – Fuck You!
Leaether Strip – Suicide Bombers (12” Mix)
Soman – Pusher
Young Gods - Oxiam

Now as for goth… I also find it saddening that modern goth has zero representation in ‘goth’ clubs (Even in Portland). Sure, I’ve heard Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and The Banshees (in whatever incarnation she comes: The Creatures etc), Bauhaus – but again, these are alt-80s hits (aka old skool). Where is the Q’ntal? Nocturne? Nightwish? Subway to Sally? Tear Garden? Voltaire? 12 Rounds? Black Tape for a Blue Girl? Where are these bands? Sharon and I are the industrial rivet stomp stomp stompers and that’s why I’m critical of a dance night called Industria and why I’ll push for more of it. I’m just very surprised that the local Goths aren’t pressuring for more _modern_ representation of their scene in the music selection if it has indeed become a more goth-industrial night (heck, were is the ethereial representation?).

Panzer AG – Behind a Gasmask
Mesh – Crash (Alien Six Kerosene Mix)
Diskonnekted – After Einstein
Empusae – Ekro-Alakin
Gary Numan – Crazier (Slide Mix)
Error – Jack The Ripper
Ah Cama Sotz – Nachtzehrer
Red Cell – Related Skin
Stromkern – Stand Up (Army Of Darkness Mix by Battery Cage)
*Rotersand – Storm
Steril – American Dream
*Ayria – My Revenge On The World
In Strict Confidence – No Love Will Heal (Lucas Boysen Remix)
*Project Pitchfork – The Future Is Now
*Covenant – Ritual Noise (Version S)
*Virtual][Embrace – Fuck You!
Leaether Strip – Suicide Bombers (12” Mix)
Soman – Pusher
Young Gods – Oxiam

Dude, you get to go out with THE Sharon and have fun. Stop your crying. I'm sure you listen to the industrial you want to on the ride over. : P Oh, and as someone who gets belittled for my taste in music, I can say that what you think is good (no matter how good it actually is) won't be liked by the sheep. They want to hear what they just heard on the radio an hour ago, not what some genre junkie thinks is good. I win!

Here I go, my attempt to explain why "Industria" isn't really industrial. Etc.

I first started going over a year ago, when it was just "Boise's Goth-Industrial Night". (Later, that became the subtitle.) And at that time, you were hard pressed to get goth or industrial. What I had to realize was that, in this town, "Goth" or "Rivethead" came right out of mainstream media. If I had a nickel for everyone who claimed to be goth because they liked Manson, Zombie, or NIN. . . (Which, if you notice, are the Balcony's Holy Trinity. They tend to be played a lot, and they tend to be played next to each other, and the amount of people who dance to them show this city for the poser Mecca it is.)

Over time, due to pressure from old-school goths such as myself, "Industria" actually started putting some Goth into "Goth-Industrial Night". Not as much as we want, but the scene is more than us. (A lot more than us, actually. I've had nights where I'm the only one who dances to the Sisters of Mercy. Dare I say, "I'm the only goth in the village. . ." Which is a Little Britain reference, so nobody get their knickers in a wad.)

Unfortunately, the Rivetheads aren't as snarky as we are, and not as many people dance to Industrial, so the mix runs closer to Goth-Poser than Goth-Industrial. Which is a shame.

You can hear more of what you like if you bother the DJ and bring CD's. You can even bring them just for the night, if you don't have a CD burner. Just keep a few things in mind:

1. Never try to interfere with the Manson, Zombie, NIN Trinity. They absolutely must be played, or lots of people will get snarky and refuse to dance.
2. The DJ isn't really a Goth or a Rivethead, but he generally likes goth more. That means you might have to educate him yourself. Like a friend of mine said, "He just doesn't understand Industrial."
3. As a rule of thumb, if it's hardcore, genuine, and old school, someone will bitch and go up to request Rob Zombie. Don't take it personally.

And I hope to see you again.

Neither S or myself let chaff like that get to us, but I did want to address those points since they were posted on this website for all to see. Since I was busy last night I didn't make it but I hear @ Industria last night more people were dancing than usual. That's positive. I also heard that nothing but swirly was playing up until midnight as well.

[...] For all the musical up and downness, it was an interesting night. Sharon and I finally had a dinner alone (SUSHI!), uninterrupted by children or friends or ringing doorbells etc…, so that was very nice. Since I’ve been here, neither of us have had the luxury of spending a few moments alone to get caught up on our lives and happenings (and I’m LIVING in her house!). Later, The sky opened up and dumped the snow that had earlier that day hit Portland. It fell in huge flakes, and made the drive home slow and fun. While there were many old familiar faces at Industria, there were plenty of new ones as well. ADDENDUM FROM THIS POST: I wanted to say that even with my criticism of the multiple plays of the same artist, I really do appreciate DJ Savage. He makes every attempt to please everyone, even when no one will dance. I can’t count how many times Sharon and I are the only ones dancing (I’m reminded of the Metric song Combat Baby**). Sharon and I both enjoy his sense of humor. How he’ll play some Rammstein and no one will dance, but then he mixes into Du Hast while holding his fingers up, starts a countdown to when everyone will go dance simply because they recognize it (unlike the previous track). Like clockwork, the GIers do. [...]

"Why take the smooth with the rough? We've not had our lives, our lives of near misses! Now all that we want, is three little wishes! I want to see with your eyes, I want to smile with your smile, I want a nice surprise...every once in a while."

I certainly wouldn't have thought of a Goth as a "Simple Folk". Isn't that like calling Boise small? Or maybe like playing no industrial music on Industria night? It is all starting to make sense now.

I do enjoy myself there, that's why I go. I simply think that an event called Industria, should play actual industrial. If it's truly "(for all intents & purposes) Goth Night" then the promoters should think about calling it Gothica. Not Industria. Please also note that my post starts by stating that the criticism I have with music holds true in Portland as well. I'm not saying Boise's GI scene sucks in comparison to Portland; I'm saying that I have an equal amount of criticism for both. Additionally, I do like Depeche Mode, just not 4 times in one night, when there are thousands of great Industrial acts to choose from.

Also, Boise (pop: 250k) is about half the size of Portland (pop: 500k), so in my book Boise is a big city too and to use an excuse of "simple folk" is snarky.

We're Simple Folk Here In Boise, Its Hardly Our Fault That We Don't Meet Up To Your Big City Standards.
@ The Enda The Night Tho, YOU'RE The One Who Deserves To Be Pitied. Wanna Know Somethin?
If You Didn't Have Such Lofty Expectations, You Could Enjoy Yourself ANYWHERE. Speaking Of Which, You Aughta Do That.
If Your So Infuriated W/ The Presence Of Goths @ What Is (for all intents & purposes) Goth Night, Than You're Simply Going To Remain A Miserable Person.
Unless Of Course, You Simply Move On. Ya Know, They Gotta Great All You Can Drink Night @ The Loft On Thursday, & If Your So Unhappy W/ Depesche Mode, Maybe You Aughta Wet Your Beak On Some Gangsta Rap. Won't That Be Fun?!
Industria Is A Joke & We All Know It, Your The Only One Who Isn't Laughing, That Aughta Be A Clue To You To Lighten Up!

Whats more disturbing than your great balls of fire, is the fact that your room sees Kiddy activity. groder. Children are germ baggs thats for sure. We're it not for my flu shot, the kids in the classes I taught this semester would have surely killed me with thier microscopic doom. Your personal Doomsday Clock will surely strike midnight the longer you hang around them unprotected. My suggestion? Jumbo bottle of hand santizer, and wash your hands untill they bleed. I'll call you sometime soon.

Your personal Doomsday Clock will surely strike midnight the longer you hang around them unprotected. My suggestion? Jumbo bottle of hand santizer, and wash your hands untill they bleed. I’ll call you sometime soon.

Don't dismiss your strength to actually take the risk to do more than you had. You said the promise of Portland was better than the reality of Montana. Of course it was. You attempted to grab that promise, while most simple live in fear of losing what they have. I applaud you for trying to do more with your life, and reach for your ambition. Failure is something that the fearful will never feel.

Welcome to my world. "It is interesting to see how such small things can hinder people’s efficiency and it’s even more interesting to see how their patterns of routine force them into lethargy." You should try working with people that are 1 year or less from retirement. I was told guys think about sex every 30 seconds. Well, when a guy is soon to retire, it's sex every 30 seconds and retirement every 15. Nothing gets done.

Myspace does indeed: suck. I sincerely do not understand how that site took off the way it did. The technology under it's hood is an embarassment.

Hey, since MySpace DOES suck, I'm going to post the message I was going to leave there, here, regarding your association with hot Shatner/Iman action and me...: "If Kirk, a man at his age, still can "make out" with Iman, back in 1991, well then, I'm honored that you'd think of me. Obviously, I'm going to be dead sexy at 70 years old." This certainly has nothing to do with you being able to get a job, but rather the fact that you watch Star Trek in the middle of the night, as I do, occasionally. Congratulations on the job!
