Terri Schiavo - Thoughts
31-Mar-05
Okay, this fuckin story has dominated the news for at least the past 10 days or so. This is HANDS-DOWN the MOST obvious, clear-cut case of Americans’ inability to keep their nose out of other peoples’ business. This fuckin SAD-ASS story, of a husband’s fight with a family over the right to die of his wife has sparked a hellish media circus whose ridiculousness, clearly, has NO bounds.
I’ve seen Terri Shciavo’s husband villified by the Pro-Lifers (or Anti-Right Demonstrators if you want to get technical about their agenda) as well as members of our own federal government. Bill Frist, a member of the infamous “Party of Inclusion” made several comments about Michael Schiavo, Terri’s husband, making him sound like some completely uncaring, heartless fucker.
I guess what pisses me off as I watch these assholes shoot their mouths off about something they, ultimately, know VERY little about is this: For 15 years or so, Michael Schiavo has had to sit by as the memories of the woman he fell in love with blur and fade as they are replaced by the reality that is the empty shell she became, by contrast. ANYONE who thinks that the decision to let her die was an easy one for him, is ignorant and should shut their fucking mouth. I’m sure he labored over that decision as he struggled with the reality of how the woman he was in love with lied in a room, with no hope of returning to even a fraction of the woman she was. Anyone who hasn’t lived that reality REALLY needs to shut the fuck up and focus on their own meaningless lives, instead of trying to make someone who’s been through a FUCK OF A LOT feel like a total asshole for the decisions he’s felt necessary.
The tragic (darkly comic) irony of this whole thing is that her eating disorder (anorexia) is what led her to the persistent vegitative state she was in for so many years, and at the end her fate came down to a feeding tube. I’m not trying to turn a tragedy into comedy or anything, but that shit is fucking TRUE irony, people.
So, Americans who hope to villify Michael Schiavo for the most difficult decision of his entire life: Fuck off! Let the man deal with the shit he’s had to deal with in his life. The events that led up to this media circus are tragic and horrible and you try to make it sound like he married strictly so he could one day make the decision about whether she lives or dies. That’s fuckin RUDE and retarded that you assholes are trying to make him feel worse about that. And YOU, Bill Frist, you need to have your Republican ass kicked for the words you spoke on the floor on this subject. You watch a few home videos and all of a sudden you’re the world’s formost diagnostician AND editorial columnist combined. Shut your fucking mouth, you contemptable pile of shit.
I guess my point is this: EVERYBODY dies. We don’t know HOW, WHEN or WHY, but we ALL do. She would’ve died anyway folks.
For the record: If I’m ever in an accident that delivers me some permanent, horrible brain damage from which I’ll never recover, pull the god damn plug, PLEASE. And don’t shoot any home movies of me as I waste away. Let me die with the dignity of not being captured on tape at my worst.
