Conservative? Liberal? Who Fuckin Cares?
20-Apr-05
To start this out, let it be known that I’m socially liberal and fiscally conservative, so I have a foot in both parties, yet neither of them are really doing their job, in my opinion.
Anywho. When I watch the news, I watch CNN and Fox News Channel, because I’d hate to think that I’m only getting one side of any story. But anyway, of the two, CNN seems to have the more balanced and fair coverage and FAR less concern about Liberal or Conservative. Fox News Channel seems to ALWAYS stress that divide in our country, ALWAYS. It amazes me as I watch that channel, just how obsessed they are with “Liberal this” and “Conservative that”.
I find it so stifling that Fox News Channel seems to be trying to create an “Us against them” or “My Team” mentality within their target audience, instead of trying to show how simple it all really is: We’re all Americans who want to see our government acting in the best interest of ALL the citizens within its borders. Democrats and Republicans may not see eye to eye on many, if any, issues, but they’ve completely lost their political objectivity in their never-ending struggle against each other. They’re there for us ALL, not for Joe Conservative or Joe Liberal. They’re in office to serve AMERICA, not their respective partys’ interests.
It’s that simple, we’re ALL Americans who just want to live the best life we can for ourselves and for our children and so on. This whole conservative and liberal inter-snottiness is ridiculous and horribly short-sighted.
I just find that this horrible over-complication of what the system SHOULD be doing goes so accepted by Americans on both sides of the fence. “Well, I don’t want those fucking conservatives to do this or that”, “Well those whiney, bleating-heart liberals are just bitter about this…” Who cares people? We all just want what’s best for our families. And that’s what people should be focused on, loving their families and friends and living a good life. If you can’t have compassion or empathy towards someone on the opposite side of the fence, you’ve lost yourself in the mire of political party-line thinking.
Life is FAR more simple than Americans tend to let it be for themselves. Live a good life, do you work, love your friends and family, eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired, move your bowels. Be compassionate towards all people of ANY race, religious background or nationality. Realize that this is America and some people will do things that are perfectly legal that you don’t agree with on some level. It’s not your place to force your values or beliefs upon them or to belittle them for living a life that differs from yours. Keep your nose out of everyone elses’ business unless you’re asked to take a whiff.
If this country is divided, it’s because there have been complicating labels slapped on you by someone else and imaginary lines have been drawn between you and “them”. Just try to remember that we’re ALL in the same boat, for the most part. We will generally gravitate towards like-minded people, but that shouldn’t be to the exclusion of all others.
