Three -- count'em -- three podcasts are winging their way to you this week from snowy Vancouver: "Hero," "Unfinished Business," and a discussion of the show with a group of the actors, myself and MrsRon sitting in our apartment and talking over various aspects of the show.
The "Roundtable Discussion" as we're calling it, is a freewheeling discussion, and there are definitely times when there's too much cross-talk and too much laughter on the recording to discern anything coherent (especially in the beginning) but tucked in amid the revelry are some interesting and fascinating tidbits which I hope you'll enjoy. Think of it as being a fly on the wall during a dinner party with a group of people delighted to be talking over the ins and outs of their favorite show. In addition to myself and the missus, we were joined by James Callis, Jamie Bamber, Tamoh Penikett, Mark Sheppard (an upcoming guest star with a major role in the finale) and Henry, a child-hood friend of Jamie's who happened to be in town that night.
The "Unfinished Business" podcast also features Tamoh and Grace Park.
Congratulations!!! The numbers are in and you have taken back the House of Representatives and more than likely the Senate, when the dust settles from that race in Virginia. I’m very happy that you made it back into power and am proud to have done my part to make it happen. BUT, my advice to you is:
1) Don’t fuck it up!
2) Don’t waste energy trying to impeach Bush. We KNOW you don’t like him. Hell, I don’t like his policy either. But trying to go after him in impeachment hearings will immediately sour you to me. I’m the furthest thing from a Republican, but I’m not a Democrat either. Investigate the problems that warrant it (and there ARE plenty of things that warrant investigation with this administration), but show restraint.
3) Do shit! Show the voters, like myself, who helped vote you into majority that you CAN accomplish something positive. Work on issues that are important to US, the American people, not issues that solely further the agenda of your party. We need to get back on track, and we’ve voted you in to help guide us back. Don’t let us down.
4) Should you fail to get shit done and merely pursue the agenda of the Democratic Party, you can JUST as easily be voted out of office in 2008. You have an opportunity to show us HOW effective a balanced government can be. It’s great that we have a Republican in the White House and a Democratic Majority in Congress. It will encourage compromise and bipartisan policy. Don’t bully the Republicans, work WITH them. Help to mend the enormous rift in this country that the last 6 years have opened.
5) Iraq: Where to start? You could VERY EASILY fuck this up in the WORST way should you decide to redeploy our troops and leave Iraq in the hands of fate. This bullshit war should never have been started in the first fuckin place, but pulling out now could be catastrophic for that region and potentially become a global problem. Work together with the experts and REALLY listen to the commanders on the ground and take the measures necessary to get this fucker to a successful conclusion as quickly as possible. But don’t be sloppy.
6) Don’t try to fuck pages or take money from lobbyists to pass legislation for them. Corruption was a sizable slice of the pie in the reasons you got voted back into power. Don’t do stupid, corrupt shit. You’re there to serve US, NOT YOURSELVES. Remember that. Keep it in your god damn pants.
So, my dear liberal types in Congress. Make us proud… or your asses are gone as fast as they appeared. Remember that. Again, congratulations and I couldn’t be more happy for you!
I mean that sincerely, I’m thrilled!
