LunchBox #9 with Son Volt

After playing to a packed house the night before at the Crystal Ballroom, Jay and the rest of the guys from Son Volt made it right on time to play a 20 minute set to the biggest turnout LunchBox has seen to date. Sony was kind enough to send over about 100 cds and a huge [...]

Time Well Spent

Every Wednesday, two of us leave the office, cross the bridge and gather kids from their classrooms to choose a book or two and read. They run across the playground, splash in the puddles, and pick their favorites over and over again.

There are no phones, no deadlines, no clients. Just children learning.

opus:creative sponsors its employees to volunteer on a weekly basis for the organization of their choice. We are participating in the Beech Elementary SMART program that provides one-on-one time for students who need support developing their reading skills.

More podcast delay

Sorry, all -- but I'm deeply under the weather since our return from Berkeley and still haven't done my podcast for the Season Three finale. (I doubt anyone's looking forward to another congestion-filled audio recording.) So as soon as I'm well, I'll finish up the season. I don't know why they haven't posted the Q&A session yet, but I'm sure it'll be up shortly.

Q & A Podcast on its way

I'm uploading a podcast to SciFi.com tonight that is a recording of an extended Q & A session I did with a large group of fans in Berkeley following the airing of the finale on Sunday night. I'll record my normal podcast on the episode tomorrow and hopefully they'll have it up day after tomorrow.

(And yes, I'm steadfastly not commenting on the fact that my last blog was months ago.)

LunchBox #9 coming March 29th!

Make sure you pack your lunch and make it to the WK atrium to catch Son Volt, this Thursday. And don’t forget to see them Wednesday night at the Crystal Ballroom as well!  Below is a little more about Son Volt and their current album. Jay Farrar has amassed a sizable and distinctive body [...]

LunchBox #8 with Ratatat

Ratatat came in for a last minute show today here in the WK atrium. Our music guru Eric stepped in and did a great intro of the band before they rocked out a killer 30 minute set. The place was packed to catch this show and Ratatat’s thick layered sound filled the [...]

Immoral…

It’s all over the news today about General Pace’s reference to homosexuality as “immoral”. The thing that pisses me off about this whole thing is that this has caused an uproar. Who cares what some jarhead douchebag thinks about gay people? Surely his words can’t be that shocking.

What I think is immoral is a government run by such horrible ideologues that Federal U.S. Attorneys are being laid off at the behest of the Bush Administration for not rendering political action in their favor or quickly enough. The Federal Prosecutor in charge of handling the Duke Cunningham lobbying scandal was fired, along with 7 other Federal Attorneys for merely doing their job the way they’re supposed to: detached from political ideology or bias. The Justice Department claims that all of the lay-offs were performance related, a reason not remotely supported by the Attorneys’ performance reviews. Not one.

To me, that is so immoral and suspect and sketchy it’s beyond belief. It’s scary just how badly this administration is abusing the power of the executive to shit on the other two branches of the government (and pretty much ALL of the American people and our country’s credibility) if they don’t fall in line with the Bush Agenda. It’s quite frightening to find out some of the things this administration has been doing that gotten little or no coverage or exposure.

I just found out last week that our administration has been funneling billions of dollars to Sunni groups in Iraq. The same groups we also call “insurgents” and “death squads” that are killing our men and women over there as well as thousands of Iraqi civilians. No paper trail, of course, but we all know about that 12 billion dollars in cash that just disappeared in Iraq. That was just the tip of the iceberg. But since we don’t want the Shiites to stay in power and befriend Iran, we’re supporting the Sunnis in their effort to regain control. The thing that messes me up about this is that we’re supporting Sunni extremists… Just a reminder, al Qaeda is an organization of Sunni extremists. So how serious could this administration possibly take the “war” on terror if we’re actually giving terrorists money under the table? It’s contemptible and makes it pretty easy to see why we’re so badly hated in that region and the world as a whole.

We need to wake up, as a country, and see the shit that’s being carried out in our name. Being against the Iraq war is just the beginning. We need to be against a completely opaque government that obfuscates its every shadowy venture. We need a government that is held accountable for its actions. President Bush always says “I’m responsible” for this or that, but when our wounded soldiers come back from Iraq and Afghanistan and get horrible care in a hospital ward that should be condemned, does he take responsibility? No, of course not. HOW many giant fuck-ups can this administration make and still not have the American public crying out for some fucking accountability? WMDs in Iraq, dropping the ball pre 9/11, Katrina, Walter Reed, Troop Surge… I don’t think he should be impeached, since a Cheney Administration sends fucking chills down my spine. But we definitely need to do some serious investigations into the dealings of the current administration. I mean, they tried to oust Clinton for lying about a blow job, 40,000 people didn’t die as a result of that blowjob. Can the same be said about this war to get all of those “weapons of mass destruction” out of Iraq? Oh, wait, that’s right…

Wake the fuck up, America. Our kids have to live in this world.

Edit: Now, some of you might say “But Bill Clinton laid off a good number of federal justices & attorneys in his administration.” That much is true, it’s a presidential prerogative, constitutionally. The difference, however, is that Bill Clinton did the lay-offs right away when he took office. He didn’t wait to handpick justices & attorneys who prosecuted or ruled against his political agenda, and promptly lay them off for not falling in line. That is why this current controversy is so shocking.
